Preserving laquer boxes

A co-worker needs some information
about what materials he could use to
cushion Japanese laquer boxes. He
wants to store the boxes, and needs
some good way to cushion them against
scratches and dings. Right now, he is
using bubble wrap, which may not be the
best stuff. By the way, these boxes
are not mueum pieces, just nice boxes.

Advice, please?

Thanks in advance!
