Position Announcement, History Associates



History Associates Incorporated, an archives, records management, and
historical research firm located in Rockville Maryland, is seeking an
experienced archivist for the processing of a collection of personal
papers and business records.

The successful candidate shall provide a range of archival tasks in
the appraisal, arrangement, and description of the records. Primary
duties shall include appraising the records; processing the records
according to archival principles; and describing the papers by means
of an archival finding aid and by a database. The database has been
developed. Assists with other projects and tasks as assigned.

The archivist will carry out work onsite at a client facility in Chevy
Chase, Maryland. The hours to be worked shall be between 8:30 A.M. and
5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in library science with a concentration in archives
management; four years experience working with large contemporary
collections; ability to collect, organize, research, interpret, and
submit written descriptions of record groups and collections;
experience creating and maintaining controlled vocabularies and
knowledge of standard descriptive cataloguing practice; knowledge of
basic conservation practice; ability to work harmoniously and
effectively with others; ability to identify problems and present and
implement recommendations for their solution; ability to work
independently and to exercise discretion, initiative, and judgement.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Access and Word.

Salary: high 30s, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits
