Position Announcement (Processing Archivist), History Associates Incorporated



History Associates Incorporated, an archives, records management, and
historical research firm located in Rockville Maryland, is looking for
a motivated archivist who enjoys varied, interesting, and challenging
work. HAI offers opportunities to work with a group of dedicated and
credentialed professionals providing information management solutions
to a wide variety of corporate, non-profit, and government clients.

HAI has an opening for an Archivist in the metropolitan Washington, DC
area performing a variety of archival tasks on collections of
different sizes and levels of complexity. The work will be performed
at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda.

Primary duties include:

   * appraising and surveying collections;

   * determining the proper level of arrangement within each collection;

   * liaison with the donor and/or representatives of the donor;

   * organizing each collection accordingly, while placing records in
proper archival housing;

   * composing finding aids that detail inclusive dates, quantity, main
types of material, arrangement, and principal subjects; and

   * communicating project goals, ojectives, and status to client
representatives.

Qualifications for this position are:

   * Master's degree in library science or related discipline, with a
concentration in archival studies or supplemented by archival
course/seminars or practica;

   * at least eighteen months' experience conducting appraisal, survey,
arrangement, and description on archival collections;

   * demonstrable, practical nowledge of archival policies and
procedures;

   * ability to collect, organize, research, interpret, and submit
written descriptions of record groups and collections;

   * excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

   * responsiveness to a dynamic corporate environment;

   * ability to work independently and to exercise discretion,
initiative, and judgement; and

   * familiarity with major word processing and database software
packages.

Salary: $30,000 and up, commensuarate with experience. Excellent
