Re: Searchable Photographic Databases

Rolanda,

There are a number of good imagebase applications commercially available. The
best one for you really depends upon your budget and what features you
need/want. We are creating imagebases for customers using ImageAXSPro, Portfo
lio, Cumulus, File Maker and several others. If your budget allows, you may
wish to consider The Museum System or Gallery Systems.

Before making a commitment to one over another, you really need to ask
yourself some questions, such as:
--where will it be available? off-line? intranet? internet? all of the
above?
-- do you want one master imagebase universally available, or do you wish to
have one for internal use and a second, more limited collection available on
the 'net?
--what size do you want your thumbnails? your source files?
--how much information do you wish to gather & publish regarding each image?
--how will keywords be assigned?
--Windows or Mac?
--how many images will the collection contain?
--do you have the resources available to create and maintain the collection?

Answering these questions will lead to a host of others, of course. But they
tell me that's what makes it fun.
