It was, indeed, Nicholson Baker, and I didn't realize he's got such a thing.  He
seemed awfully prepared to condemn the lot of us, particularly the
preservationinsts who have dared to suggest that paper might degrade (this is
not the first time I've heard something about "scary librarians" - that term was
used in the context of a copyright conversation).  I don't know that we have to
worry about him particularly, and I agree with Richard's point that we need to
go about our business as scientifically and professionally as possible, but I
suppose there's nothing wrong with us reexamining our approaches now and then.

And then, of course, we wait for the archives fairy to come down and leave us
all twice as much space and twice as much money as we need, tucked nicely under
our pillows.
