archives assistant position



Bowdoin College seeks applicants for the permanent staff position
Archives Assistant [.75%FTE], who assists in the processing, management,
preservation, and research use of the Bowdoin College archives,
manuscript collections, and other departmental holdings. Duties include
arrangement, description, reference services, and digital production.

Bachelor of Arts and one to two years' experience working in a library
or archives setting required.

Founded in 1794, Bowdoin College is a highly competitive liberal arts
college of 1550 students located in Brunswick (mid-coastal Maine), 30
miles north of Portland and 2 1/2 hours north of Boston.

Special Collections & Archives, with a staff of 4.25 FTE, houses 5,000
linear feet of manuscripts and archival records, 45,000 volumes of rare
books, and over 25,000 photographs. Important collections include the
Sen. George J. Mitchell Papers, the papers of O.O. Howard and Joshua
Chamberlain, Hawthorne and Longfellow collections, Gehenna Press works,
and arctic studies materials.
