I saw that notorious chair as a child in the 1960s and was told that the
supposed "blood" stain on the back was actually residual brylcreem and hair
grease from countless rubes who had sat in it over the century before
conservator minds prevailed.  I hope this is right...I may be initiating yet
another urban asassination legend...
