SF Bay Area - Disaster Workshop

Bay Area Preservation Network,
BALIS/MOBAC/NBC/PLS/SVLS Staff Development Committee, and
BayNet present:

Disaster Planning and Response
A two-day workshop for Librarians and Archivists

All institutions are vulnerable to catastrophic loss due to earthquakes, floods, or fires. Most institutions already have evacuation plans and other emergency procedures in place, but many lack the planning and knowledge to protect books, records, and other rare or irreplaceable cultural assets. This two-day workshop helps prepare for and limit various types of damage through risk assessment, disaster planning, and recovery procedures.

                · Day One is intended for the current or potential disaster team leader. Topics include: risk assessment and management; disaster planning; elements and development of a written plan; and regional resources for emergency management and response. Several disaster plans are provided as models, and each institution creates a framework for its own plan.

                · Day Two is intended for Day One participants and up to two other staff members from the same institution who need to become familiar with disaster planning and response. Topics include: disaster response; activities during and after a disaster; and salvage techniques for library and archival materials.

All sessions are from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Oakland: Monday-Tuesday, September 25-26, Main Library, West Auditorium, 125 14th Street
