proper storage for 16mm film

Hello all:

I am wondering if I may gather suggestions from some organizations/institutions regarding the proper archival storage of 16mm reel film? I am working on a film to video transfer project and am presently at the "inventory" stage. While going through a number of the aluminum cans, I continuously find rust and had planned to replace many if not all of them with plastic cans for storage. Is this the optimal storage medium for reel film? Also, I need suggestions as to where one might purchase film cannisters wholesale and/or in bulk- is there a preferred vendor for such a purchase? Your advice is appreciated. Thanks.
