FACULTY POSITION

The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) seeks a dynamic assistant professor candidate with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service to join a rapidly changing and dynamic learning community, beginning August, 2001. 

SLIS is looking primarily for candidates capable of teaching and conducting research on archives and records management, with particular emphasis on electronic records and on the management of digital and multi-media collections; or in information/knowledge representation and organization and information architecture. Other areas in which we have strong interest include digital libraries and school library media services.

All applicants will be expected to teach in some area of the core curriculum as well as in their area of special expertise. 

Faculty are expected to conduct research within information studies, broadly construed; teach two courses per semester; advise master?s students and supervise doctoral research. All candidates should be practiced in use of technologies for teaching and learning, committed to diversity, prepared to seek opportunities for collaboration and to contribute to the School?s service mission.

Required:  Ph. D. completed or expected by August 2001 in appropriate field; research and publications commensurate with experience or evidence of ability to carry out a research agenda; potential for excellence in teaching.

The School, ranked eighth in the most recent US NEWS survey, numbers approximately 175 masters and 20 doctoral students and a collegial faculty and staff of 18.  It is located in a modern classroom building overlooking beautiful Lake Mendota in one of the world's finest universities and in one of the United States? most livable cities. SLIS is home to a large and vital Continuing Education Service and the Center for the History of Print Culture in Modern America.
