Re: Faculty records and Intellectual Property

There's one other consideration about faculty-produced materials.
You need to find out what your local collective bargaining agreement
with the faculty says (if there is one). The United Faculty of Florida
agreement that covers all faculty and administrative/professional
positions at all ten state universities in Florida....says that a faculty
member controls their research, papers, records, etc. There has
been considerable testy discussion about the videotaping of courses
or the production of electronic online distance learning modules. If
Professor Smith teaches history of western civilization and all of his
lectures are videotaped or transcribed and placed online....can the
University use these to offer history of western civilization under the
guidance of a different faculty member, or even offer the course after
Professor Smith has retired or left the University? It is a looming
question in the age of website development!
