Subject: REPOST- AmeriCorps Position at Ft. Mojave Reservation

To: AMIA-L@LSV.UKY.EDU

I would like to apologize for my insensitivity in a previous posting
(pointed out by a kind recipient of this list).... I stated "young and
upcoming archivist.....interested in serving an AmeriCorps Fellows
position"....

It should have read:
ANY UPCOMING ARCHIVISTS OUT THERE WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN SERVING AN
AMERICORPS FELLOWS POSITION FOR 10 MOS. AT THE FORT MOJAVE INDIAN TRIBE,
(needles, CA), RESEARCHING, FACT-FINDING, DOCUMENTING tribal history and
culture- VISITING ARCHIVES, AND MORE!!!!! $ 13,000 living
allowance, benefits after 90 days, SOUND INTERESTING!!! PLEASE HAVE ANY
PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES OR INTERESTED PARTIES EMAIL ME:

        email: lbbmx@ctaz.com

Additional info on this position is as follows:

The project here at the fort Mojave reservation is quite interesting., or I
should say the life style is rather interesting, tribe has 1,110 Tribal
members and 2500 non-tribal living on 45000 acre reservation in tri-state
area of Arizona, California and Nevada. TRibe owns several casinos and a
resort/hotel/golf course. The area very unique (all desert - dry and hot in
summer, mild-cool (40's) and windy in winter, there's water - Colorado river
and Lake Havasu for fun and games-

The tribe has one of the last Indian Marching bands still in existence from
1906 and filming/documenting them would be another great activity. Also the
old Fort Mojave was the LAST Military outpost in the west (1850-1890)...
another area for research and documenting.

Also, field trips on reservation and off - at museums, archives and others..
The stipend is $ 250 per week, plus $ 4750 education award at end of 10
months...

One position is to embrace the community and help enable youth to give
something back to their community through cultural channels- song, dance,
crafts, etc. You would work with the Tribe's Director of Hist and Cultural
Preservation (very nice Elder and quite a character).

Another is to work with HS students to help them understand their potentials
and connect school with actual work skills, and enable them to understand
their history and culture (we have a small HS of 25 students, and there are
some other 100 HS students at regular public schools. You would serve under
the Tribal Education Department and use your talents to help
document/preserve the current and investigate/preserve the past and enable
youth- through various activities to learn about technology and help enable
these youth to desire and volunteer to give something back to the community-
or help students to learn about their potentials and current skills and
abilities as applies to the workplace (while engaging them in cultural
preservation and understanding).

Various other school projects where 'youth might help film/edit and share
what they've learned about their own culture with other native and
non-native kids in community and schools would be an activity.

Rest is whatever we want to make it..

Do you have any equipment? Can you film and document?

The money is not great, but the experience is limitless and has no
boundaries ..... perhaps if you can film and document, you might be able to
do some other jobs for the tribe on the "side" for extra monies...

If serious I will foreword more materials.

Please tell me a bit about yourself if you are still interested in working
in an Indian Community on a reservation. Such as your educational
background, your field or job of choice and experience you have. Can you
opiate a camera, do you have some of your own equipment, are you able to
integrate well with variety of people of different ages and cultures????

We look forward to your response.
