DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides reference service and information to customers in person and by
telephone, fax, mail and e-mail. Furnishes information on library
services, activities, facilities and policies. Assists with development
of Texas and Local History collection. Monitors processing and
preservation of materials. Participates in special projects such as
preparation of bibliographies and user guides, provision of library
orientations, tours and programs and presentations to groups. May assume
responsibility for the department in the absence of the Manager and
Assistant Manager. Performs other tasks essential to efficient library
operations as assigned. Requires some weekend work (Saturday and Sunday
work).
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must be
able to use a computer to access/input information. Requires visual
acuity to read titles and call numbers (alpha-numeric) of books and
materials. Must be able to move freely throughout the library. Position
requires stooping, bending and lifting up to 20 pounds.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One (1) year of professional library experience after receiving master's
degree.
PREFERENCES
Bachelor's degree in American History and customer/public service
experience preferred. Current computer skills including Microsoft
Windows, Word, Excel and Access.
SALARY INFORMATION
Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's
qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this
classification. The minimum to midpoint of this salary range is:
$34,840 - $41,912 Annually

Department during posted opening and closing dates shown, between 9:00
am to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 611 Walker, Garden Level. First

Successful candidates will be notified of their application status. All
new and rehires must pass a pre-employment drug test and are subject to
a physical examination and verification of information provided.
