Susan: Austin College was founded in 1849. The first yearbook was
published in 1899, and it had photos of the students, faculty, and trustees
printed in it. However, prior to the annual, the literary societies on
campus published a monthly magazine, and by 1897 the May issue functioned
similarly to a yearbook. There were photos of the companies of cadets
(Austin College was a military school at the time), the fraternities, the
football and baseball teams, and the main building and society halls
printed in this issue.
