Re: College/University Archivists

Cornell University was founded in 1865, the first students came in
1868. The yearbook, The Cornellian was published the following year.
The first photographs (portraits of faculty, scenes, etc.) were
published in 1886. Pictures of individual students appear in a
second publication in 1890; it becomes the Cornell Class Book in
1895. In 1917, the Cornellian and the Class Book merge as one volume.

Does anyone have a firm date on the beginning of yearbooks in US colleges
and universities? Or, please, to those archivists reading here at some
of the oldest institutions, what year did your yearbooks begin?

Does anyone know of the year such books first incorporated photos, first
actually had photos printed on the pages?

Thanks so much,
