Job announcement: Contract Archivist, Thousand Oaks, CA



JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:  CONTRACT ARCHIVIST

The Thousand Oaks Library System in Thousand Oaks, California, seeks an experienced archivist to complete the processing of the Rudy Vallee Collection within the library's American Radio Archives.  This position is funded through an LSTA grant from the California State Library for one year, beginning in the Fall of 2000.  The successful candidate will arrange, describe, and make reappraisal decisions for specific series within the collection, and will also perform basic preservation treatment to safeguard the collection.  The goal at the end of this project is the full arrangement and description of a collection of several hundred linear feet of manuscript material.

REQUIRED:  An ALA-accredited M.L.S. degree, an M.A. degree in History, or Academy of Certified Archivists certification, with coursework and/or previous experience in archival practice.  DESIRABLE:  Candidates with knowledge of the history of the performing arts in the United States, and specifically the history of American radio broadcasting.  

Salary:  Minimum, $39,000, negotiable.  Review of applications will begin on 10/26/2000.
