The Ohio Historical Society has the following position open:

Local Government Records Cataloger
Archives/Library
Columbus, OH

Position Scope:
This is a professional position in the Archives Library Division of the Ohio
Historical Society.  The Local Government Records Cataloger will inventory,
verify, physically re-arrange, and create short entry catalog records for
the local government records collections.

Primary Responsibilities:
*       Inventory and verify local government records collections
*       Re-arrange, label and shelve local government records collections as
necessary
*       Create short entry bibliographic records in MARC format for local
government records collections and add them to the on-line catalog of the
Ohio Historical Society
*       Work with State Archives staff on cataloging issues with other
government records collections
*       Perform other duties as assigned

Typical Working Conditions:
A majority of the work in this position is performed in an office
environment; some takes place in library stacks.

Typical Physical Demands:
This position requires prolonged sitting (chiefly at a computer terminal)
and some bending, stooping and stretching. Also required on occasion is the
lifting and moving of boxes weighing up to fifty pounds.

Relationships:
Occasionally supervises technical and paraprofessional staff.  Works closely
with State Archives, Library Services and Research Services staff as
necessary.


Qualifications:
Education - Graduate degree in Library Science.
Experience -  One year experience cataloging library materials and/or
archival collections, internships accepted in lieu of this requirement.

Skills:
*       Knowledge of AACR2, LCSH, MARC formats
*       Demonstrated ability to prepare original bibliographic records
*       Familiarity with Ohio and American history
*       Excellent organizational skills
*       Ability to follow complex written or oral instructions, to work
independently, to pay attention to detail while completing repetitive tasks,
to manage time effectively, to promptly report problems to supervisors, and
to exercise good judgment.

Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
