History Associates Incorporated, an archives, records management,
and historical research firm located in Rockville, Maryland, is
looking for motivated archivists and records managers who enjoy
varied, interesting, and challenging work. HAI offers
opportunities to work with a group of dedicated and credentialed
professionals providing information management solutions to a
wide variety of corporate, nonprofit, and government clients.

HAI has an opening for an Electronic Records Specialist, who will
serve as a primary point of contact on issues regarding the
creation, maintenance, access, storage, and preservation of
electronic records. The Electronic Records Specialist will
provide electronic records management consultation on contracts
in which clients seek to establish or improve digital information
systems as part of an overall information management strategy.

Responsibilities include meeting with clients, analyzing software
and hardware and, when necessary, making recommendations for
upgrades in support of improved electronic records management;
providing detailed recommendations on suitable hardware and
software products including submitting and evaluating bids,
conducting comparative analyses of different systems, and
providing recommendations on the most suitable and appropriate
system; participating in the development of retention and
disposition schedules for electronic records; providing guidance
on copying, reformatting conversion, and migration of electronic
records, and giving training and educational presentations on
electronic records management and preservation topics;
participating in other records management and archival projects
related to textual and audiovisual records; staying abreast of
trends in the fields of electronic records management,
information technology, research, and best practices; and
participating in information technology planning and policy
making for HAI's own information management assets.

Qualifications

? MLS or comparable graduate degree with an emphasis on
electronic records management and/or information technology from
an accredited graduate program

? Knowledge of professional archival and records management
principles, standards, and practices as applied to records in
non-electronic format

? At least six years' progressive practical experience in
electronic records management, including schedule development and
implementation

? Demonstrable experience with information management technology,
including Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS), Records
Management Applications (RMA), digital imaging, Database
Management Systems (DBMS), and Computer Output to Laser Disc
(COLD) systems

? Experience with basic and advanced computer systems including
word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations,
communications programs, and operating systems (Windows 95/98/NT,
Mac, OS, and others)

? Experience with workflow analyses, application development, and
system architectures

? Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability
to clearly render complex technical issues

Salary: High 30s to low 40s, commensurate with experience.
