Questions
Given that repository staff time is in increasing
demand, that the backlog of unprocessed accessions is
ever increasing and that most communication is carried
out through electronic means, is current electronic
description doing an optimal job of describing
collections? In other words is EAD, electronic
creation of entries to NUCMC (or other archive
databases) and other forms of electronically generated
description providing intellectual control, or is it
simply saving staff effort and only giving the
appearance of full description? Are electronically
generated entries being created from finding-aids
themselves, or merely from accession records?
