Re: Friday topic?: Creature comforts and the archival office

I have to admit that my desk is not in the processing area, so I
currently have two African violets on it, but I also have a variety of
things on it that make it less sterile, but are archivally safe:

* a small (ca. 6 inch tall) teddy bear: I can justify having this
security blanket because he wears a T-shirt that says "A Friend of the
Greater Poughkeepsie Library District." (definitely a creature
comfort, although I haven't had a crisis on the job so bad that I
really needed him)

* a small photograph of my husband in a nice frame

* a very small pewter cat statuette

* a quartz crystal

I don't have the ability to hang things on the wall, but used the
side of my computer CPU to put up a photocopy of an 8.5 x 11 poster
from our archives advertising a 1951 radio program in which Eleanor
Roosevelt interviewed the then director of the Culinary
Institute--especially interesting because the CIA was in New Haven
then, but now we are just down the road from Eleanor. This poster is
currently covered by a larger poster some of my work-mates made for me
this summer to celebrate the publication of my book, _Long-Distance
Genealogy_.
