"Strategies for Managing Records and Archives on Web Sites"
Government, business, and other institutions now deliver
much of their information via the Web. They are faced with
the challenge of identifying, managing and fostering
effective use of records created and transmitted via the
Web and available via Web sites. Meeting the records
management implications is a major challenge; dealing with
archival issues presents a particular set of problems.
This presentation will address:
* the role of archivists and records managers
* the Internet as a records-transmitting system
* the nature and concept of official records on Web sites
* strategies for archival and records management involvement
* specific strategies for managing records on Web sites
Date: November 30, 2000, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Location: UMD, College Park, MD
Registration Fee: $145 (includes lunch)
Registration Deadline: extended to November 20, 2000
Instructor: Thomas Ruller, Information Technology Service
Division, NYS Education Department

"Developments in Privacy Law:The Rapidly Developing Contest
between Business and the Individual"
Beyond the Privacy Act of 1974, very little is known
generally about the privacy rights of individuals and the
multitude of risks existing today and poised tomorrow. The
media reports daily of threats to personal privacy by
business, the media or government -- often aided by the
Internet specifically or technology in general.
This seminar will provide an overview of the conflict and
seek to answer timely questions including:
* What does the Privacy Act of 1974 protect and what does
it permit in the way of collection?
* What of dissemination? What are the regulations on
"routine uses"?
* What legislative developments are present or on the
horizon?
Whether you are employed in the private or government
sector, you need to be aware of your obligations and
liabilities. Join us for this comprehensive look at
privacy law, practice and policy today!
