Los Angeles telephone book archive

In the early Eighties, I did a good deal of research using an archive of Los
Angeles area telephone books. The archive was a facility of the telephone
company. It was located in a small building at, I believe, the corner of
Wilshire and Normandie in Los Angeles.

However, after the breakup of the Bell System in the mid-Eighties, I have
been unable to ascertain whether the collection of telephone directories
(dating back many years) was maintained, moved, or dismantled. Does anyone
know whether it still exists, or whether a similar resource exists in the
Los Angeles area?

Thanks.
