Re: Poster question

I have successfully removed the back half of a foam core mounted item,
though nothing as large as a poster. Doing so reduces the bulk, if that's
helpful, and removes some of the acidic environment, recognizing that the
most damaging material is the adhesive layer which will remain on the poster
along with the top layer of the foam board.

Subject: Poster question

Hello All,

We have a poster from one of the performances of our orchestra at an outside
venue--so we did not produce the advertising materials--that came to us
already mounted on foam core. It is large--about 5'x3'. There were only
two and both were mounted. I'd like to save it as we have only a few of
these types of posters.

One way would be to just hang it on the wall. But then there is the concern
about light damage. Is there anything I can do to minimize this? Storing
it away in the Archives would be problematical--like everyone else I have
very little room. Can things mounted on foam core be "unmounted?" Any
other ideas for me?

Thanks.
