NEIGHBORHOOD HISTORY WEB SITE

The Lincoln Park History Project is pleased to announce that it
has launched a new web site at
http://www.montgomerylibrary.org/lpark/lpproject.html. The primary focus
of the site is to preserve and provide access to the rich cultural
heritage of Lincoln Park, one of Rockville, Maryland's oldest communities.
In order to assure that the materials are properly preserved and
representative of the entire Community, historic materials such as,
minutes, newsletters, scrapbooks, clippings, diaries, reports,
correspondence, yearbooks, photographs, and letters will be digitally
archived and will encompass materials from individuals and families as
well as churches, political and civic associations, businesses, and
community centers. Although there is no intention for the materials to be
maintained on site, in an effort to make the collection as exhaustive as
possible, it is a necessary part of the project's mission to borrow
materials, for a limited time, from the community at large, for purposes
of digitization.
The success of the Lincoln Park History Project is dependent upon
not only community but outside participation. Thus, the Project is
interested in and encourages historical organizations to participate in
and help maintain the materials that are available through the web site,
by providing links to and from the site, and by providing suggestions or
advice on ways the site can fulfill its purpose.
The site is maintained by the Lincoln Park Partners, a
neighborhood history initiative of the Lincoln Park Historical Society,
the Montgomery County Archives, the Montgomery County Historical Society,
Peerless Rockville, the Rockville Regional Library, and the United Black
Cultural Center, Inc.
Preserving and providing access to the rich cultural heritage of
the Lincoln Park Community is the primary focus of the web site which has
been recently launched.
