Whitney Museum of American Art Archives

The Whitney Museum of American Art seeks applicants for a Project Archivist
who will establish an institutional archives program.  Reporting to the
Museum Librarian, the archivist will arrange and describe a collection that
documents the founding of the Whitney Museum of American Art.  Materials
consist of historical papers that document the Museum's history,
exhibitions, and collections; Edward Hopper Research papers and Records of
the American Art Research Council.   The archivist will prepare written
finding aids to the collections with eventual conversion to electronic
formats. This project is funded for two years with a possible extension to
three years.

Qualifications:  Ideal candidates will have an A.L.A. accredited M.L.S or
M.L.I.S., or an M.A. in history with a concentration in archives; 2-3 years
experience in an institutional archive; working knowledge of current
standards in archival management and preservation; experience with RLIN,
library online systems, encoded archival description and MARC format; good
interpersonal and management skills; and demonstrated written and oral
communication skills.  A degree in art history or American studies is
preferred.
