  It seems as if "we the people" will be one more step removed from our
elected government representatives if a computerized system takes over this
task.
  When my son was working on his master's degree at American University he
volunteered for a time in the office of a Florida congressman.  When certain
letters came in which could not be answered by the usual form letter
response one of the staff (sometimes my son) had to write a real reply.  I
had learned a long time ago that senators and representatives do not write
personal responses because of the volume of mail each receives on a daily
basis. Nevertheless, I was very disappointed to learn that fact.
