Karen,
This may not be what you were looking for, but for what it's worth: Having sold flat files in the past, your starting point on this will be the depth of the drawers. I'd recommend the shallower drawers (roughly 1"). The files with 2" drawers are less expensive, but in order to fully utilize each drawer's capacity you end up packing about twice as many drawings into it, which increases the hassle (as well as the risk of damage to drawings) when you try to remove or re-file drawings from the bottom of the drawer. Also, Mayline (one of the leading flat file manufacturers) offers magnetic dividers to be placed in flat file drawers. By using the dividers, you can configure a drawer to hold different sizes of drawings in various combinations, thereby making better use of the drawer. Best wishes, Thomas Berry, Archivist
Karen Wagner wrote: Hello All! I am looking to pick your collective brain. We are investigating various funding sources for the purchase of additional flat file drawer units for the storage of architectural drawings. I am trying to develop a justification for the purchase for the financial powers-that-be. I know at one point I heard or read a recommendation on the number of architectural drawings stored per drawer, but I cannot figure out where I got the information. It was something like "x drawings per folder and x folders per drawer". Does anyone out there have this information and its source? Thanks!********************************************************************* |
