And among the cognescenti, that use of the term "Beemers" refers to the
motorcycles, not the cars (known as Bimmers). BMW was also among the early
German aircraft engineering companies, too. That's how they developed the
air-cooled, horizontally-opposed, twin cylinder engines that came to be
used in their motorcycles known as "Airheads." Of course now they have
"Flying Bricks" and "Oilheads" but we'll save that for another rainy day...

Obligatory Archival content: does anyone know if they have an archivist who
could, perhaps, tell us when the term "Beemer" first started to be used?
