I don't see why it's necessary to question the technical competence of the
majority of the users of this list. The accidental posting of personal
messages is fairly infequent, and in my opinion, a very minor annoyance and
a minor issue. The solution to this minor problem would significantly impair
the value of listserv. Yes, most people will know how to direct responses to
the list - but, increasingly, they won't, because it won't be the default
setting and it takes more time and effort to do so. The trial period proved
that.

All this dither about unwanted messages: I direct all this listserv's
messages to a separate folder and delete EVERYTHING once a month, knowing
all the listserve's messages are available in the listserve's archives.
