Re: Archivist/records manager on TV

At least the archivist or records person lived. In the "Twighlight Zone"
marathon on Sci-Fi on 1 Jan 01, i fortuitously caught only two episodes. The
one featured Burgess Meredith (AKA "The Penguin" in a "Batman" movie) as a
librarian. The New World Order had deemed his profession obsolete, so he
would have to be eliminated. The stern New World Officer (very Nazi-ish
stage set, uniforms, etc.) who sentenced him offered him a choice of
execution. The librarian chose a bomb....(OK, so it's TV). However, the
librarian invites the officer to his quarters before the bomb explodes, and
he freaks the officer into realizing the importance of books and history.
Somehow manages to de-program the guy. However, cameras have caught the
weakness of the officer, so he goes back to the big hall where sentencing is
carried out. Burgess Meredith goes out with a bang, reading the Bible as I
recall. Now that the officer is weakened intellectually, he is sentenced to
die. Miraculously, the next episode is my favorite of all time, the one
where the pig-faced medical staff take a half-hour to unwrap the head
bandages of a woman. A lot can be said for Hollywood make-up since those of
TV.
