Re: Archiving Websites



I recently sent the following in response to a very similar question posed to the Digital Libraries research mailing list.  Thought it might also be of interest here:

I know of a few people who have used Teleport Pro with a fair degree of success.

The LOCKSS project uses w3mir, which has the advantages of being free and open-source.  For a list of these, and a number of other tools, you might want to check out:

I also sent a message to the ARCHIVES mailing list a few months ago that may be helpful in describing some of the options, at least as I see them (though it's already a bit out-of-date):

I think the ideal solution will vary greatly, depending on what the materials are, what sort of authenticity requirements you're assuming, how long you plan to keep them, how much in-house development and maintenance you can do, the degree to which persistent links will be a problem for you, among other things.
