Archiving websites

I responded to the original query off list. Because this seems to be an
area of interest, I'll repeat it here.

The Arizona State Library and Archives is charged with collecting state
agency publications, and recent legislation clarified that that mandate
includes electronic publications. Hence, the Library and Archives is
investigating the problem of ensuring long-term access to state
agencies' publication-like documents on the Web.

The Library and Archives have spidered all state agency Web publications
and found some 160,000 individual web pages. Needless to say, we're
looking at automated tools that rely on meta tags to identify, download,
and provide access to web pages.

We're at very early stages of project definition and will not have
anything to report anytime soon. However, I would be interested in
hearing from others working in this area to ensure that we have a
complete understanding of current work.
