Re: Graduate schools

Hi Aubrey,
I suggest looking at Simmons College [http://www.simmons.edu/programs/gslis/] in Boston, Massachusetts. I graduated in 1999 and received a MSLS with an archives concentration. I am very pleased with the education I received. In the U.S. News rankings, that Mr. Lee listed the URL for, under archives and preservation Simmons College is within the top ten and within the top 15 of library schools in general. The URL for Simmons archives program is http://www.simmons.edu/programs/gslis/programs/archives.html
In addition to the 12 semester hours of required courses for the MSLS (the program requries 36 semester hours total) there are three required courses for the concentration, two of which require internships. There are also several archives-related electives. The program accomodates part-time and full-time students. There are many archives, historical societies, and museums in the greater Boston area where internships, part-time and/or full-time jobs can be carried out while in school (giving you ample opportunity to actually apply what you are learning). Simmons also offers a Dual Degree Program in Archives Management with Simmons's history program. It is a 56-semester-hour program.
An additional plus at Simmons is its very active student chapter of the Society of American Archivists, called SCOSAA. Their email address is scosaa@simmons.edu You might drop them a note to see if any students have time to provide insight into the program. SCOSAA's URL is http://web.simmons.edu/~scosaa/scosaa.htm; you can see what they're up to there.

Good luck and feel free to email me if you have any additional questions.

Debbie
