Restrictions

Hello all,

I am new to archival administration, so I'd greatly appreciate advice from
experienced colleagues.

In my collection, I have a report on "Prehistoric Indian Mounds" in this
region, researched and written by a former archaeology professor at my
university. Until now, the report was restricted and could be used only
with the permission of the author. We've only recently located him. The
author now wants the report to be available to professional archaeologists
or others conducting serious research (not treasure hunters). He wants my
archives to take responsibility for deciding who we allow to use the
report. I understand his concern, but don't think my staff and I should be
in the position of evaluating who is and isn't an acceptable user. Should
I be wary of agreeing to such an arrangement and what are some alternatives
for accommodating the donor? Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.
