Corporate Archivist - Houston, Texas



Pitney Bowes Management Services (PBMS) seeks applicants for the position of
Corporate Archivist responsible for historical records and artifacts from
worldwide locations.  Applicants should have demonstrated experience in
progressive practices and programs, and demonstrated leadership, drive and
initiative.  The person accepting this position is expected to drive,
establish, and maintain the historical records program, including
collecting, organizing, and preserving.  The Corporate Archivist will be
part of the PBMS team that provides records and archives support to a
high-tech corporation in Houston, Texas.  The location is near Tomball,
Texas.

Responsibilities include: developing and documenting the collection policy
and guidelines; identifying and acquiring materials appropriate for a
corporate archive; interfacing with a matrix of positions regarding
historical matters; describing and cataloging any backlog of undocumented
materials for the corporate collection (includes print and written media,
sound recordings, video cassettes, films, art and photographic images,
electronic records, and other artifacts); developing and implementing
processing plans for new collections; preparing finding aids and other
descriptive tools; managing the workflow and resources of the archives;
providing research and reference; preparing for the corporation's 20th
anniversary in 2002; providing regular activity and management reports;
participating in other departmental work as assigned; setting priorities,
balancing workload and deadlines; and performing physical activities
associated with an archival environment.

Qualifications include a minimum of four to ten years experience, ability to
communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to work
cooperatively and effectively with staff and customers, strong analytical,
organizational, decision-making, and presentation skills; self-starter; and
able to work independently or with teams.

Also desire a working knowledge of automated library and archival management
systems; experience with issues related to management and preservation of
electronic records; and experience with intellectual property management and
preservation.

The candidate should have, at a minimum, a bachelor's degree with focus on
library/information science, archival administration, and records
management.  Masters Degree preferred.

Must have a current working knowledge of MS and Windows 97 software
applications. Familiarity with Horizon system is a plus.
