                         University at Buffalo Libraries


        The University at Buffalo Libraries are seeking a skilled and
experienced archivist to manage the University Archives services and to
promote the Archives within UB and Western New York communities.  The
Archivist is a member of the senior management group in the Libraries and
reports to the Associate Vice President for University Libraries.  The
Archivist assures access to the collections, oversees budget and personnel
management, establishes policy and insures that services, collections, and
bibliographic records are of high standard.  The Archivist promotes
special programs and exhibits, and the use and support of the Archives,
which retain University records and hold a variety of important
collections, such as the records of the Love Canal and Frank Lloyd Wright

publication is expected as a member of the Libraries faculty.

Qualifications:  Required: Graduate degree in library or information
science from an ALA accredited program, preferably with a concentration in
archival administration; or graduate degree in history with 3-5 years'
experience in an academic or research archive.  A Certificate of Archival
Administration is desirable.  Evidence of excellent interpersonal
communication skills and public relations experience.  Demonstrated
experience with electronic formats and archival records management.

Rank and Salary:  This is an advanced, tenure-track library faculty
position at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian ($38,000) or Associate
Librarian ($44,000) minimum.

prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), the University at
Buffalo offers a broad range of undergraduate, masters, and doctoral

with its  ivy-covered edifices is located within the City and has been
redesigned and renovated as a major medical research center.  The North
Campus, a few miles away in Amherst, is a massive complex of academic
