Manuscripts in Philadelphia
For the information of archivists, book historians, and librarians who may
be located in or near, or who are planning travel to, Philadelphia in the
short-term future, the Philadelphia Museum of Art
http://www.philamuseum.org/
is currently hosting TWO exhibitions devoted to illuminated manuscripts
and miniature paintings.
(1)
"Intimate Worlds: Masterpieces of Indian Painting from the Alvin O. Bellak
Collection" opened on March 2 and runs through April 29, 2001. The
Museum's website for information about this exhibition is:
http://www.philamuseum.org/exhibitions/exhibits/bellak.shtml
(2)
"Leaves of Gold: Treasures of Manuscript Illumination from Philadelphia
Collections" opened on March 10 and runs through May 13, 2001. The Museum
and the Philadelphia Area Consortium of Special Collections Libraries
(PACSCL) are joint sponsors of this exhibition; objects included in the
exhibition come from the Museum and many PACSCL member institutions. The
Museum's website for information about this exhibition is:
http://www.philamuseum.org/exhibitions/exhibits/leavesgold.shtml
In addition, "Leaves of Gold" has mounted its own website:
http://www.leavesofgold.org/
Moreover, several additional sites are available through PACSCL:
http://www.pacscl.org/leaves/index.html
These include information about the exhibition's published catalogue:

A third exhibition also presently on view at the Philadelphia Museum is
related neither to books, manuscripts, or archives, but may interest some
visitors even so: "Alice Neel" opened February 18 and runs through April
15, 2001.
