Electronic Government Is Coming! Are You Ready?
Tuesday, April 3, 2001, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Oakland Federal Building, Roybal Auditorium, 1301 Clay Street, Oakland
Electronic commerce and electronic government are upon us. The Government Paper work Elimination Act of 1998 (GPEA) mandates that by 2003, federal government agencies provide for on-line transactions with their customers and the public. Similarly, electronic commerce is sweeping the private sector. This trend has profound implications for the ways all institutions do their work and manage information and records. Government agencies, private firms, records managers, computer professionals, archivists, and librarians need to get up to speed now on the best
strategies for accomplishing secure electronic transactions while protecting the privacy, authenticity, and longevity of the electronic records produced.
Mark Giguere is a computer specialist for Policy, Planning & Management at the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C. He is currently involved in a number of NARA's electronic records initiatives and collaborations. Mark will present a primer on NARA's GPEA guidance and on public key infrastructure, one prevalent means of achieving electronic government.
Be sure to bring a photo ID for admission to the building.
