Actually Dana you could probably set up a LC account to do nothing but post
the announcements. All subscriptions would be set to nomail and if you use
MS Outlook you would set up a group that would contain the addresses for the
various lists. You could have multiple groups depending upon the type of
announcement. Thus you would only select one address (after setting up the
group)for posting the announcements. Your system could also be set up so
that any responses would be rejected by your email system

If a non-subscriber can post what good is a subscription. I, too, belong to
several other lists, but I don't receive the mail, I review it through the
archives for each list. The subscription permits me to make postings from
the website where ever I am. As I long-time member of recmgmt-l I don't
recall receiving any spam or non-subscriber postings, but I may be wrong.

Hello,

Though the explicit messages do drive me nuts, I too am one of those
folks that posts to a variety of lists on behalf of the NDL at LC.
Though I am a member of this list I do posts through my lc internet
address. Yes I could subscribe using my lc address but I also don't want
to subscribe to 100 lists to insure that people hear about LC events and
new collections on American Memory. Also we do get occassional good
messages and inquiries from non-members and some of those non-members may
become members.

This is a very thorny issue and I would be interested to see if there are
alternatives beyond making making it impossible for non-subscribers to
post messages.
