I don't understand this SPAM thing. I have just checked my mail archive for
this screen name for the past month and there is NOTHING in it I would call
Spam. Even the most "commercial" messages, job offerings or conference
announcements, all have to do with archiving. Perhaps you need to define what
you consider spam in this context.

On AOL I have seven screen names, five like this one dedicated only to
listservs. On this one and one other, I have NEVER seen a post I would call
Spam. Of course on the main name, used on message boards, there is the usual
daily dose.

This same topic has come up on other listservs, and after considerable
discussion it has been established that the Spam is independent of the
LISTSERV; i.e., not coming through the LISTSERV at all. In fact, it was
found that the members most plagued by Spam were using HOTMAIL!

I have started receiving mail on another LISTSERV-dedicated screen name after
making a direct reply to someone on HOTMAIL. It looks as if anyone even just
SENDING a massage to a HOTMAIL member opens up the Spam window.

I will never email directly to a HOTMAIL address for that reason. This
listserv's setting, to reply to sender rather than the list, may be
responsible for the seeming increase in Spam for some members.
