Container sizes

An informal Monday survey....

Does your institution select container size based on the needs of the
records or on the desire to keep containers consistent in size for ease of
space management/tracking? In other words, how do you decide what container
size to use for your records?

If your holdings include different size containers and you employ the use of
computer-based system to track your holdings, is the computer capable of
automatically calculating your space statistics, or do you use a formula
that accounts for box size variance?

Thank you in advance for responding!
