Re: lady bugs as pests

Lady bugs come in 2 varieties that you may commonly encounter. The red lady
bug is quite harmless I think, but the orange (I believe they originate in
Africa) ones that are commonly available from garden shops for controlling
aphids on roses have a 2 year cycle of proliferation. They are very smelly
and hard to control in the proliferation phase. They will multiply rapidly
and profusely, die in clusters, and leave a resinous residue behind. I
don't know what all the ramifications are for paper, but it doesn't sound
promising to me. Maybe you need to find out which variety you might be
dealing with.
