Web Manager

The Ohio Historical Society seeks candidates for the position of Web
Manager.  The Web Manager will develop and maintain the society's web site.
He or she will provide support for web-based projects and delivery of online
services. Together with other society staff, the incumbent will also
participate in evaluating and improving online resources in preparation for
implementation of content management software.

Responsibilities:

*       Maintain existing web content, hardware, and software. Perform
regular backups.  Take appropriate actions to preserve site security and
functionality.
*       Create new web pages and coordinate the efforts of other staff who
create content to ensure consistency and coherence within the site.
*       Support web-based projects by preparing mockups, outlines, and
schematic drawings; developing databases; designing web graphics and
templates; and doing necessary Cold Fusion programming.
*       Participate in society-wide efforts to create a new look for the
society's web site, restructure the site architecture, and implement
e-commerce.
*       Perform front-end evaluation and conduct usability tests.  Analyze
results and make recommendations for addressing significant issues raised by
users.
*       Provide advice and guidance to staff throughout the society.
*       Maintain an inventory of all web content.
*       Monitor web-site usage and maintain such statistics as will serve to
document it.  Produce monthly reports that summarize use statistics and
analyze trends.
*       Evaluate and make recommendations for purchases of hardware,
software, and training opportunities.
*       Install and configure hardware and software.
*       Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
*       Bachelor's degree in history, computer science, or a related field
required. Graduate degree in library or information science preferred.
*       Two or more years' professional web management or information
architecture experience, preferably in a library, museum, or related
not-for-profit environment.
*       Thorough knowledge of the principles of web-site design and
management.
*       Extensive experience using web-related hardware and software
(Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Perl, JavaScript, Flash, Cold Fusion, etc.).
*       Ability to visualize, organize, and label information and to put
ideas into tangible form.
*       Familiarity with the principles of information architecture.
*       Strong working knowledge of database development.
*       Familiarity with e-commerce implementation strategies.
*       Familiarity with integrated library and information systems and MARC
cataloging.
*       Familiarity with American history and the practices of libraries and
museums, particularly the Dublin Core metadata scheme.
*       Superior interpersonal, organizational, communication, and teamwork
skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with both technical
and non-technical staff.
