Annoucement of New Information on the American Memory Learning Page



This announcement is being posted to a number of lists. Please accept
our apologies for any duplicate postings.

The Learning Page staff is pleased to announce the addition of several
new items to the Learning Page <http://learning.loc.gov/learn/> This
section of American Memory has been created to provide teachers with
information and resources to help them incorporate the primary source
materials found in American Memory into classroom activities.

One of the new items that teachers will find on the Learning Page
include a new feature on Presidential Inaugurations
<http://learning.loc.gov/learn/features/index.html>. Features
investigate a specific topic using items from across the American Memory
collections. This feature provides a history of inaugurations and
activities for students to do to learn more about the inauguration
process.

In addition to the Inaugurations feature, there have been additions made
to the to the American Memory Timeline
<http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/ndlpedu/features/timeline/index.html>,
which provides information and links to primary source documents on
important periods in American history.

Three new "Learn More About Its" have also been added to the Learning
Page. These "Learn Mores" provide teachers with summary information
about the collections as well as suggestions for teaching and learning
with the collection material.

The presentation for the collection of American Environmental
Photographs
<http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/ndlpedu/collections/environ/envintro.html>
will be of interest to teachers of biology, botany or environmental
issues.

Those studying the Civil War will be interested in the Learn More for
"We'll Sing to Abe Our Song:" Sheet Music about Lincoln, Emancipation
and the Civil War"
<http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/ndlpedu/collections/lincoln/linintro.html>
which will provide tips on how to incorporate the music of the Civil War
into classroom activities.

Teachers discussing the beginnings of the consumerism movement and the
economy prior to the Great Depression will be interested in the Learn
More for Prosperity and Thrift: The Coolidge Era and the Consumer
Economy, 1921-1929

In addition to the three new Learn Mores, teachers will find a new and
improved Learn More for the New Deal Stage: Federal Theater Project,
1935-1939

In addition, the Learning Page is also offering a new activity for
students on copyright

Joseph, an American Memory Fellow and the writer of the "Cyberbee"
Column for Multimedia Schools Magazine, this presentation introduces
students to the rules of copyright through an interactive question and
answer format.
