Nicholson Baker (not again!)

Several days ago I posted a few excerpts from the review of _Double
Fold_ in _Library Journal_. Yesterday I finally finished that issue,
and found a second review. The first was in the general reviews; the
second is in the "Professional Media" section (LJ April 1, 2001, p.
140). "Novelist NIcholson Baker's one-man muckraking
campaigns--against the discarding of old card catalogs and their
replacement with automated systems and the San Francisco Public
Library's notorious weeding program--have raised more than a few
hackles in the library community. Unfortunately, his new book _Double
Fold: Libraries and the Assault on Paper_ is going to anger a few more
professionals, most notably the head honchos at the Library of
Congress and University Microfilms. Criticizing the conversion of
libraries' newspaper collections into microform, Baker pulls no
punches, singling out LC and UMI for special condemnation. Despite the
inflammatory nation of his criticisms, Baker raises some important
questions about preservation that our sometimes timid profession
should boldly confront head-on."

A lot of truth in a short paragraph!!
