(Temporary, Non-Tenure Track)

San Francisco State University invites applications for a lecturer library
faculty position as Outreach Archivist for the Labor Archives and Research
Center of the J. Paul Leonard Library available July 1, 2001. The
successful candidate will be expected to fulfill a combination of
responsibilities in the areas of outreach and educating the labor
community on the mission of the Center which is currently located in a
physically separate building from the Leonard Library. Other
responsibilities include fundraising and event planning; and archival
management including appraisal, accessioning, description and reference.
Librarians have full faculty status. Appointment is expected to be at the
rank of Assistant or Senior Assistant Librarian, depending on
qualifications (minimum salary: $40,044). Initial appointment for 12
months renewable annually up to five years. This position works closely
with the Acting Director of the Center; both positions report to the
University Librarian.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees outreach activities including attending labor
events and planning the Center's annual evening program, book signings,
exhibit openings and lectures. Oversees fundraising activities including
working with the county central labor councils and other labor
organizations in support of the Center, coordinating these activities in
collaboration with the SFSU University Development office, planning grant
writing proposals to support the special projects and activities of the
Center, conducting the annual solicitation drive, preparing internal donor
database and other financial documentation, and reviewing monthly
statements from the SFSU Foundation. Works closely with the Center's
Acting Director in acquiring and describing collections. Serves with other
LARC staff on reference and in teaching one-session SFSU classes, in
research methods and labor history.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited Masters in Library and Information
Science or equivalent training or experience in archival administration;
two-years experience in an archival repository; knowledge of labor
history, preferably relating to California. Ability to work
effectively with culturally diverse constituency, and with both labor
unions and the academic community. Ability to provide research advice and
instruction to researchers, students, faculty and union members. Ability
to work independently and as a member of a team. Excellent oral
and written communication skills. Strong service ethic.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience as a fund-raiser and events planner.
Working knowledge of new and emerging technologies and familiarity with
their impact on higher education and research in general, and on archives
and special collections in particular.
