Re: Searchable archive for Ellis Island now online

I just got in today! (probably by sheer luck and a fast click on the refresh
key) There is a story in RAIN today that the website had over 50 million
hits on the morning that it opened (April 17th).

Now as to the site itself. YOu can search for free but if you want details
you must register but it is free. Was I successful? you betcha! Found my
paternal grandfather, the day he arrived, the ship he sailed on etc. The
information is fantastic. Fortunately there are not that many variant
spellings and the village name is known.

So keep trying, eventually you will get in. Even if you get into the site
you may occasionally get the error message but keep hitting refresh.
