I think we're getting a little off-topic here. Please keep to the
subject
which is Buffalo History. Off-topic discussions should be taken off the
list. Remember, there are over a hundred people participating in this
list.

By the way, Saturday's Buffalo News had an article on the front page
regarding records storage in Erie County. An informal commitee led by
County
Clerk David J. Swarts is calling for the creation of a regional records
center. According to the article, the Buffalo and Erie County Public
Library
is one of few in the country to retain their original newspaper
collection.
Most libraries discarded all original newspapers once they were
microfilmed.
Supposedly, Buffalo kept theirs due to the lack of funds for
microfilming.
This is very interesting in light of the recent national controversy
caused
by a new book by Rochester native Nicholson Baker who accuses the
nations'
libraries of destroying thousands of irreplaceable newspapers and other
