Re: Copiers vs. Scanners

If budget and materials and staffing allow, I could see having the
capability
to make scanned copies available. You don't mention the nature of your
collection
so it can be hard to generalize.
At the same time, I recoil at suggestions to wholesale replace standard
photocopiers with scanning/digitizing equipment. It assumes no patron will
want a standard photocopy and that everyone has a computer and/or uses a
computer for every project for which they would want a photocopy of an
item. Such a proposal also assumes that all materials in your collection
are/will be suitable for scanning - potentially repeatedly - in terms of
legibility, physical format, and physical condition.

Hope things work out for the best!

Here's one for you - in our upcoming renovation,
someone has suggested we replace our patron copiers
with scanners and let everyone digitize everything.

Any comments on this? Is anyone allowing anything
like this?
