newspapers, etc.

Well I was glad to rant and rave yesterday and start a little controversy. Today I'm just tired. BUT,

I do take exception to those who discuss my "attitude" not knowing me. In addition, as the replies roll in, it seems to me that a lot of variation exists in one's definitions of primary and secondary sources. Perhaps my language was not specific enough for your tastes, BUT (again) the crux of my issue remains the same.

Newspapers were created in multiples. Chances are that the correspondence, diaries, photographs, etc. were not. Therefore, I think, that a lot of places put an inordinate amount of time saving, helping, dealing with newspapers and clips alike, and leaving the bulk of their significant and exciting collections to fend for themselves. I have encountered many many many small and large repositories that are cataloging, babying, photocopying, yes microfilming, and spending tremendous amounts of time and money on newsclips, and are not doing the same things for their unique collections.

There, I'm finished. I won't rave again for a while!!!!!!
